The story plot was actually excellent and this could have been a good book. Could have being the major key words here. However, the author was more concerned in dragging it out to make a trilogy to make more money than 1 good book. It started off pretty confusing, then got a little better, then got confusing again and then it just drug on and on and on. The ending was very abrupt. There was no explanation for the confusing beginning. Basically it was meant to entice you in buying the series.I have no intentionn of buying the series as this book didn't warrant me wanting to continue reading this series. I'm not going to waste any more time or money.

Very sad book but very good there are 2 more books that go along with this one cant wait to read them
I enjoyed this book even though it saddened me.
I need to read the rest of the trilogy.
Too emotional for me but so beautifully written. Sorry that I couldn't finish it.....too well written. Recommend to people who don't mind a good cry
I was just not into this book. I felt sorry for the little kids but I just didn't feel anything else for this book.
This book had promise but the author meandered through a half thought out plot with very little depth. The characters were flat and predicable. The allusions to sexual abuse and fanatical zealots just made the story seem deliberately sensationalized.
It just ended... I don't understand the theme. It seemed confusing to me. It was good at first, but the whole Christian outlook confused me.
The Beautiful Ugly by James Snyder
The Beautiful Ugly by James Snyder was a very touching, poignant book. Through his writing, Snyder was able to grab the reader’s attention and have them feel what the character was going through at that time. Snyder had a good grasp on what some kids may feel when Children Services peddles them off to a host family. (The feelings of being lost, confused, angry, abandoned)(However, not all families are like those portrayed in the book. I feel there are more good families out there than bad but you do have those that suck big time.)
I do feel though that the character development was lacking. I wanted to know more but was given less.

I also agree with another review that this book should also be a reminder to parents to plan for their children in case of their death. The system unfortunately is not a pleasant one and can do a lot of damage to a child’s psyche. Planning ahead can alleviate the stress and tension a child feels.
